St. Thomas is close to many other islands and making it possibly the best Caribbean island of all. visit St. John, BVIs, etc. Take a ferry, boat charter, sea plane, private plane from STT to islands such as St. John (20 minutes by ferry), St. Croix (20 minutes by sea plane), Anegada, Puerto Rico, Culebra (20 minutes by private plane charter), BVIs (1 hour by ferries or boat charters); even St. Martin (only an hour by private plane charter e.g. Capitol Air). Bolongo is centrally convenient to airport (Charlotte Amalie) and ferries (Red Hook).
