There are possibly some of the best views in the Caribbean from just about any spot on the property. You can see as far as the Spanish Virgin Islands of Vieques and Culebra and Puerto Rico on a clear day. The villa also overlooks secluded Mermaid’s Chair and Sandy Beach which is arguably the nicest beach on St. Thomas. The villa’s name is Whydah, named after the most successful Pirate ship that ever sailed before sinking off MA in April of 1717. The ship was found about 20 years ago and to this day is still being explored for artifacts. The story goes captain Sam Bellamy was traveling up the coast of MA with his ship full of treasure. A freak storm sank the ship near shore, as Sam was trying to reach his young girlfriend whom he had hoped to sail away with. It is a true story of pirate gold and romance. The Whydah was the first pirate ship ever found and to date the only other Pirate Ship ever found was Blackbeard's that had nothing aboard. The setting and furnishings of the 15,000 sq/ft villa + 4,000 sq/ft outdoor living area on just under 3 waterfront acres were meant to invoke the retirement home of a successful pirate that brought his treasures to the property and retired from a life on the seas, settling down with his wife and children. Authentic treasure chests, cannons, guns, etc… create what some describe to be a fairytale like hideaway. As described by the owner, “The house is really the retirement home of a pirate who in retirement surrounds himself with the bounty of his exploits with his wife at his side.” This private, top-of-the line 19,000 square foot home has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a caretaker house and two guest cottages along with a four car garage, custom tiled pool and spa, and a large formal kitchen with cabinetry designed, by Clive Christian. All interior flooring is of coral stone. A large gazebo with wrap around seating and the children's play area with fish pond and fountain will entice one to the pool deck. The main building upper level consists of the master suite, children's room, great room, formal dining room, and a large formal kitchen. The lower level contains an in-law suite and laundry room. On the upper level of the pool house, decks extend where you will find a full outdoor kitchen, bar and gas grill for entertaining by day or night under the stars. The lower level includes a large playroom with a full bath, walk-in closet and arcade/game room that could be converted into another large master suite. Under the Gazebo is a large room that would make for an excellent Artists Studio or a place to display large works of art. The two guest cottages are identical and include two queen beds, a screened porch, full bath, wet bar and walk-in closet. The "Tower" is an observation deck, and houses a second master suite, an office constructed of rich mahogany wood and tile floors and a dungeon. The owners have traveled the world and purchased many antiques to make this home unique. There are several one-of-a-kind bronze chandeliers from as far away as Russia and France dating back to the 1800 and 1900’s.
